KHE RAVISHER LL FC 18": Lightweight Kids' BMX with Freecoaster
With the KHE RAVISHER LL FC 18", we are introducing our new flagship model in the 18-inch category. What makes it special: it is the first complete 18-inch KHE BMX to come equipped with a Freecoaster as standard.
At just 19.4 lb / 8.8 kg, with a lightweight aluminum frame, two brakes, the patented KHE AFFIX Rotor system and geometry specifically designed for young riders, the RAVISHER LL FC offers much more than a typical kids' BMX.
The bike is aimed especially at kids and young riders who already enjoy BMX riding and want to start learning freestyle tricks in addition to regular riding. At the same time, different factors matter on a kids' BMX than on an adult bike: the right size, low weight and components that are easy to control.
What makes the KHE RAVISHER LL FC 18" special?
The RAVISHER LL FC is our flagship model in the 18-inch category, combining very low weight with an extensive freestyle setup for young riders. The lightweight aluminum frame helps keep the bike at only around 19.4 lb / 8.8 kg, making it easier for younger riders to control.
The main highlight is the standard KHE Greyhound Freecoaster hub, which allows the BMX to roll backward without the pedals turning backward. It is paired with the patented KHE AFFIX Rotor system, allowing full handlebar rotations while the rear brake remains functional. With front and rear brakes, the bike remains easy to control while giving young riders the equipment they need to learn their first freestyle tricks and continue progressing.
Who is an 18-inch BMX suitable for?
Choosing the right size is especially important for a kids' BMX. The bike should match the child's height so the handlebars, pedals and wheels can be controlled comfortably and the BMX feels natural to ride.
Our 18-inch BMX bikes are designed for kids and young riders approximately 4'1" to 4'9" / 125 to 145 cm tall. This often corresponds to children from around seven years old. Since kids grow at different rates and body proportions vary, height is more important than age when choosing the right BMX.
An 18-inch BMX sits between a 16-inch BMX and the classic 20-inch BMX. It is especially useful for riders who are starting to outgrow a 16-inch bike but are not yet ideally sized for a 20-inch BMX.
The frame, wheels, handlebars and cranks are sized accordingly for smaller riders. This keeps the bike easy to handle while providing more room than a 16-inch model.
Which 18-inch BMX is right for my child?
If an 18-inch BMX is the right size, the next step is to consider how the bike will be used and how much BMX experience the rider already has.
For beginners, everyday riding and first simple tricks, a more traditionally equipped 18-inch BMX such as our KHE BLAZE can already be a very good choice.
The RAVISHER LL FC is designed especially for young riders who already ride BMX regularly and want to progress further in freestyle. As the flagship of our 18-inch range, it offers an extensive component package and additional technical features that become increasingly useful as the rider's skills progress.
Why is a lightweight BMX especially important for kids?
The RAVISHER LL FC weighs only around 19.4 lb / 8.8 kg. Low weight is particularly beneficial on a kids' BMX.
A child has significantly less body weight and strength than an adult rider. That means a difference of one or two kilograms in bike weight has a much greater effect on a young rider.
A lightweight BMX is easier to accelerate, steer and correct. Less weight also needs to be moved when lifting the front wheel, doing bunny hops, small jumps or learning the first technical movements.
This can make the bike feel more natural and easier to control for a young rider.
The low weight of the RAVISHER LL FC is not the result of one single component, but of several lightweight parts working together.
Why is an aluminum BMX interesting for kids?
An important factor in the low weight is the aluminum frame. The 25.2-inch / 640 mm wide handlebar on the RAVISHER LL FC is also made from aluminum.
Aluminum makes it possible to build strong components while keeping weight low. This is particularly useful for smaller and lighter riders because the BMX weighs less in relation to the rider's body weight.
Despite the Freecoaster, AFFIX Rotor, two brakes and strong double-wall rims, the RAVISHER LL FC still weighs only 19.4 lb / 8.8 kg.
This makes aluminum especially interesting for a high-quality kids' BMX: the bike remains strong and freestyle-ready without adding unnecessary weight for younger riders.
What is a Freecoaster and why is it special on the RAVISHER?
The biggest technical highlight of the RAVISHER LL FC is found in the rear wheel: the KHE Greyhound Freecoaster hub.
With a conventional BMX freewheel, the cranks move when the bike rolls backward for a longer distance. A Freecoaster works differently: when rolling backward, the drivetrain disengages so the pedals do not automatically rotate backward.
This is especially useful for fakies. During a fakie, the rider rolls backward on the BMX, for example after turning on a ramp or coming out of a specific trick.
With a Freecoaster, the rider can focus more on balance, direction and bike control without having to pedal backward at the same time.
A Freecoaster is not essential for normal riding. However, it offers many additional possibilities for riders who want to learn more technical BMX tricks.
With the RAVISHER LL FC, we are offering this technology as standard for the first time on a complete KHE 18-inch BMX.
KHE and the history of the Freecoaster
Freecoaster technology has been part of KHE for many years.
Back in 1992, KHE introduced the “Rollvergnügen”, a Freecoaster hub with sealed bearings. Over the following decades, the technology was continuously developed through various KHE Freecoaster models.
The basic principle remains the same today: the rider should be able to roll backward without the cranks and pedals automatically rotating backward.
The RAVISHER LL FC uses a modern KHE Greyhound Freecoaster hub with a 9T driver. This brings technology that has long been part of freestyle BMX into our 18-inch category.
What does the KHE AFFIX Rotor system do?
In addition to the Freecoaster, the RAVISHER LL FC features our patented KHE AFFIX Rotor system.
On a BMX with a conventional brake cable setup, the cable can wrap around the head tube when the handlebars are rotated fully several times. A rotor prevents this.
With the AFFIX system, the handlebars can be rotated 360° and spun multiple times while the rear brake remains fully functional.
This is important for tricks such as barspins.
A young rider may not need a rotor from the very first day. The advantage is that the technology is already installed when more advanced tricks become part of their riding.
This allows the RAVISHER LL FC to grow with the rider from confident basic riding to much more technical freestyle tricks without requiring a brake system conversion.
BMX components designed for young riders
The other components also make it clear that the RAVISHER LL FC is a real BMX rather than a regular kids' bike with BMX styling.
The 23/9 gearing provides a compact BMX drivetrain. It is combined with a three-piece forged aluminum crankset with 152 mm crank arms and a sealed EURO bottom bracket.
The wheels use strong 18-inch aluminum double-wall rims with 36 spokes and KHE ACME 18 x 2.125-inch tires.
The handlebar is also sized for the bike. It measures 25.2 inches / 640 mm wide and 7.9 inches / 200 mm high.
This means the frame, wheels, cranks and cockpit are all proportioned for younger riders.
Where can the KHE RAVISHER LL FC be ridden?
The RAVISHER LL FC is suitable for several different BMX disciplines.
At the skatepark, the low weight provides a good foundation for first jumps, bunny hops and later more technical tricks.
For street riding, young riders benefit from the compact 18-inch geometry and good bike control.
For Flatland, the low weight, Freecoaster and freely rotating handlebars are particularly useful.
The RAVISHER also works well on a pump track, where young riders can develop cornering technique, balance and active bike movement.
This means kids do not have to choose one BMX discipline from the beginning and can try different styles of riding.
Can an existing 18-inch BMX be upgraded to a Freecoaster?
Riders who already own a compatible 18-inch BMX do not necessarily need to buy a complete new bike to try a Freecoaster.
The KHE Freecoaster + MVP DD 18-inch rear wheel is also available separately.
The rear wheel combines a KHE Greyhound Freecoaster hub with a strong 18-inch double-wall rim. This makes it possible to upgrade a compatible 18-inch BMX specifically to a Freecoaster setup.
The Freecoaster also features adjustable slack. This changes how much pedal movement there is before the drivetrain engages when pedaling forward.
Before upgrading, always check whether the wheel is compatible with the existing BMX. The rear wheel uses a 14 mm axle and a 9T RHD driver. The dropouts, drivetrain and chainline therefore need to be compatible.
The separate rear wheel is especially useful for riders who want to upgrade the technology on their existing 18-inch BMX.
KHE RAVISHER LL FC – 18-inch BMX technology for the next step
The KHE RAVISHER LL FC combines the key features of a high-quality kids' BMX with technology from modern freestyle BMX.
The 18-inch geometry for riders approximately 4'1"–4'9" / 125–145 cm tall provides well-matched proportions. The aluminum frame and other lightweight components keep the bike at only 19.4 lb / 8.8 kg. Two brakes help support controlled riding.
With the KHE Greyhound Freecoaster and AFFIX Rotor system, the bike also offers the technical possibilities young riders need when they progress from bunny hops and first jumps to fakies, barspins and other freestyle tricks.
This combination makes the RAVISHER LL FC our new flagship model in the 18-inch category.
