Rotorsystem AFFIX

KHEbikes presents the AFFIX 360° rotor system

BMX has been developed and revolutionized several times over the past decades. And now it was time to go one step further again. The basic mechanism of a BMX brake was previously one of the following two: A traditional long cable or a rotor. A cable limits a certain number of handlebar turns with increasing friction, and a rotor is a complicated and large set of cables and screws from top to bottom. Our goal was to take the best of both and combine them into one: a sleek design, no increase in friction or restriction of bar movement, yet simple to maintain and easy to install. We are very proud to say that we have accomplished just that.

What is AFFIX system?

Well, AFFIX system is one of the most innovative modern bicycle brands and is above all a source of ideas and resulting patents. It's not about developing a specific product, but rather about offering a concept or improvement that can be adapted in many different ways. Or taking an old concept to a whole new level. Over the years, several great innovations have seen the light of day and are used in many different products.

Innovative technology

BMX has been developed and revolutionized several times over the past decades. And now it was time to go one step further again. The basic mechanism of a BMX brake was previously one of the following two: A traditional long cable or a rotor. A cable limits a certain number of handlebar turns with increasing friction, and a rotor is a complicated and large set of cables and screws from top to bottom. Our goal was to take the best of both and combine them into one: a sleek design, no increase in friction or restriction of bar movement, yet simple to maintain and easy to install. We are very proud to say that we have accomplished just that.

How does the rotor work?

As you can see in the pictures above, we have installed the rotor completely internally. No split or duplicate cables and a reduction to just three screws in total, while retaining all the benefits of both the cable and the traditional rotor. Instead of splitting the cable in two and rejoining it, we chose the direct route through the steering tube. We found that there was enough space between the steerer tube and the steering tube to allow two small washers to rotate without external or internal friction. Starting from the brake lever, the upper cable goes directly into the steering tube and has a bridge at its end that holds and locks the lower part of the rotor. Above it is the upper part of the rotor, which is connected to the lower cable of the system that ends at the rear brakes. Due to the low forces acting on both the steerer tube and the steering tube, it is possible to cut vertical slots that allow a neat cable routing.

On the left in the GIF you can see the AFFIX rotor in action! The handlebar can be rotated as often as desired without Verhedern the cables. Due to the internal running cables and the internal rotor with the special AFFIX system there is hardly any risk of injury. In addition to the weight savings compared to a standard rotor convinces the KHE AFFIX rotor with its clean design. Since many professionals ride "brakeless", i.e. without brakes, the KHE AFFIX Rotor has been designed more for kids, beginners and advanced riders. Especially for kids and beginners, the AFFIX Rotor offers only advantages. With the AFFIX Rotor system you can ride with one brake, but of course also with both brakes!
