BMX stem
The BMX stem is an important component of the BMX bike and holds the handlebars securely to the fork. There are several types of BMX stems, which differ in size, shape and material.
The size of the stem is an important factor when choosing a BMX stem. Most BMX stems have a length between 48 and 53 mm, but there are also shorter and longer variants. A shorter stem gives the rider more control, while a longer stem makes the bike more stable and faster.
The shape of the BMX stem is another important factor. Some stems have a flat surface, while others are curved or arched. A curved stem offers more control and allows the rider to perform tricks more easily, while a flat stem is better suited for riding fast. In the BMX scene we additionally distinguish between Frontloader and Toploader stems. In the frontloader, the plate for attaching the handlebars to the stem is bolted from the front, while in the toploader, as the name suggests, it is bolted from above. The height of the handlebars can be varied by the shape of the stem, for example, with the help of a toploader the handlebars can be moved up a few cm. With a Frontoader, the height remains the same.
The material of the stem can also vary. Most BMX stems are made of aluminum or chromoly steel. Aluminum stems are lighter, while chromoly steel stems are sturdier and more durable.
Another important factor when choosing a BMX stem is the clamp. Most stems have a clamping of 22.2 mm, but there are also variants with 25.4 mm. Make sure that the stem fits the size of the handlebars and fork of the bike.
In summary, the BMX stem is an important factor that affects the handling and comfort of the BMX bike.
